ORDER OF WORSHIP
PRELUDE: Medley of Jazz Standards; Morning Has Broken – Michelle Currie
WORDS OF WELCOME: Rev. Paula Norbert
“The best thing for being sad,” replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, “is to learn something. That is the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then – to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the thing for you.” Terence H. White – The Once and Future King
PRAYER OF INVOCATION:
This Prayer was delivered by Marjorie’s father, the Rev. L. Gordon Adamson, on March 8, 1964 in this church – where he was serving as the interim minister.
OPENING HYMN: Spirit of life, #123, Gray Hymnal
READING: We Need One Another
Leader: We need one another when we mourn and would be comforted.
All: We need one another when we are in trouble and afraid.
Leader: We need one another when we are in despair, in temptation, and need to be recalled to our best selves again.
All: We need one another when we would accomplish some great purpose and cannot do it alone.
Leader: We need one another in the hour of success, when we look for someone to share our triumphs.
All: We need one another in the hour of defeat, when with encouragement we might endure, and stand again.

All: All our lives we are in need, and others are in need of us.
