Today is World Communion Sunday, a Christian observance held on the first Sunday of October to emphasize unity in faith and the interconnectedness of the global Christian Church. Churches around the world participate by
sharing in the sacrament of Holy Communion. The tradition, which began in 1933 with Dr. Hugh Thompson Kerr, was widely endorsed by the National Council of Churches during World War.
